OK, I'm interested... what next?
It's decision making time!
We can help you set up your blog, but we need you to decide what the purpose/mission of your blog will be. The more specific you can be about what you want your blog to (1) accomplish, (2) convey, and (3) look like, the better.
| Time to do some research! Check out other blogs on the internet, whether it be of your competitors, friends, or just websites that you like, write down the things you like and disklike about each site. Once you have your list compiled you will have a good idea of what will make your website yours. | |
| Pick a domain name. This step is extremely important, because the shorter and more memorable the better (eg. http://www.the-longest-domain-name-in-the-world.com will not work). Keep it short and simple and people will remember your website if they hear it in conversation and you will get more traffic. Keeping it short should also not mean you can fudge on spelling, make sure you pick a domain name that is not confusing to spell if you overhear it in conversation (avoid using homophones, eg. pear/pair/pare). | |
| Create a list of pages and content the site must have from the beginning (you can always add to this later), but you don't want to have a blank site up for months while you decide what information you want to convey. Gather images, logos and other assets you want to use in the design or layout of the site. | |
